My fabulous, chic, and VERY artistic friend Emily is doing a guest post for me today. Emily and I have known each other for a while now, we're besties because we both love Pretty Little Liars, we're both Gleeks, and we're both shopaholics! Check out how your outfit can be inspiration for art and how to win her very cute 'City Stroll' painting, sure to look cute on your wall. While you're at it, hop on over to her etsy shop to check out all her other fab pieces of art.

Somedays I just wake up wanting to imerse myself in color. Not a specific outfit, just a color. Well, the other day it was all about cobalt blue. I threw on an old work dress with some new flats from Rack Room Shoes. I was deceived by the sunshine pooring through my window as I walked outside to discover that spring showers had already begun. So I grabbed the closest umbrella and discovered an amazing color combination- LIME GREEN AND COBALT BLUE.

Dress: TJ Maxx
Shoes: X-Appeal (purchase)
Bracelet: Gifted
Umbrella: old

As an artist I have to get inspiration from anything and everything I encounter. When I come across a color combo that I adore I just have to head to my local craft store to buy a fresh canvas and some new paint. Amazing color inspiration + a beautiful rainy day led to this creation:

My favorite color combinations typically come from my accessories. While I am loving coral these days, I wasn’t sure how to accessorize without being over the top. When I found this lemon yellow bracelet at Old Navy, I could not resist. I love how it gives an extra pop to an already vibrant outfit.

Top:  2b Bebe
Pants:  Old Navy
Heels: Jessica Simpson
Bracelet: Old Navy (buy)

This led to a citrus explosion of creativity.  Feeling like a bowl of fruity pebbles, I once again headed to my local craft store and created this set of paintings. These colors could bring life to even the most boring kitchen or dining room; perfect if you live in a rental like me and don’t want to paint the walls!

Fashion and art can also intertwine in a more direct way. I have always been into vintage vogue covers and have recently been playing around with fashion paintings to add some d├ęcor to my closet (it really should be respected as a room of its own). When creating art for my personal collection I completely ignored what was right in front of me; my own clothes. With one blank canvas left, I had to turn to one of my go-to skirts; all about the houndstooth.

Top: Old
Skirt: Banana Republic
Sunglasses: Ray Ban
Necklace: Gifted <3
Shoes: Rocket Dog

Something about this skirt always makes me feel classy and chic. I can wear it with flats and a tee for a casual day or rock some heels and a leather jacket for a night on the town. No matter what, I always feel like I stand out among a sea of ho-hum black skirts and solid slacks. I feel like no matter how the morning started or how gloomy the weather, this skirt can brighten my day (pretty impressive for a black and white skirt).  Just add a pop of color and BAM! I typically go with red, but I wanted to change things up and get in the mood for spring. For my fashion painting I wanted to add some mystery to the woman  in houndstooth.
